What we do
Technology. Patient capital. Community trust.
Three problems where technology, patient capital and community trust can move outcomes together.
Our main focus
Innovative finance for women-owned businesses.
Luma Circle strategically focusses on under-served and fragile communities in Africa, where traditional financing is unwilling or unable to go. We build the digital rails, credit scores and blended vehicles that close the $1.7 trillion global finance gap.
Access to affordable energy
560 million people in sub-Saharan Africa live without electricity, 85% of the world's total. Caribbean households pay up to three times US prices because islands import 87% of their oil. Clinics, schools and women's enterprises cannot run on diesel economics.
Target: 500,000 women and their households with reliable, affordable power by 2031.
What we back
- Distributed solar, storage and mini-grids for clinics, schools, markets and cooperatives
- Productive-use appliances (cold chain, milling, irrigation) on pay-as-you-go terms
- Island resilience: solar plus storage replacing imported diesel
- Women-led energy distributors and last-mile agents
Access to healthcare
Africa will be short 5.85 million health workers by 2030 and has 46% of the workers it needs, yet nearly a million trained health workers were unemployed in 2024. Small island states face the same shortage with the added cost of distance.
Target: 1 million patient interactions for women and girls and 5,000 women health workers employed by 2031.
What we back
- Telehealth and diagnostics that put trained health workers to work in rural and island communities
- Maternal and primary-care supply chains, solar-powered where needed
- Health-worker training, credentialing and financing platforms
- Women's health enterprises, from pharmacies to community health networks
Access to innovative finance
Women-owned small and medium enterprises face a $1.7 trillion global finance gap. In Africa and the Caribbean they are the missing middle: too big for microfinance, too informal for banks. Savings groups, cooperatives and diaspora remittances hold capital that never compounds.
Target: $100 million of finance mobilised to women-led enterprises by 2031.
What we back
- Digital village savings groups and cooperative lending
- Embedded finance for energy and health customers, from pay-as-you-go to insurance and credit scoring
- Diaspora investment products for both regions
- Fund structures that let foundations, development finance institutions and commercial investors share one vehicle
